Eighty years ago today 4 December 1941

 Thursday 4 December. Told to report to Lieutenant Colonel Harris (CRIASC) at 9:00 a.m. for Coy Cdr’s conference re trip to Delhi for vehicles. One officer from DTT (Doctrine, Tactics and Training?) Company to go. More work with SSupO checking QM’s stores. Dealt with correspondence. Major Mohite due back tomorrow; shall I be glad to see him? Commanding a Company of 480 odd is no joke, Bed at 10:00 p.m.

Little to report. On the pistol range firing; not a very accurate weapon. Went to soccer match, college vs. staff in the evening; surprised at high standard. I’d back them to lick Monmouth; some third division standard. No letters yet, I hope I hear soon, getting worried. Well, it’s getting near pay day. Another point is the excellent instructors here, the Non-Commissioned Officers, particularly, are fine fellows.

Drill, Maintenance, Urdu test (not so good, may affect postings a good deal). Lectures on Training and Embarking. Demonstration Rooms at 5:00 p.m. More notes to finish. Received Beacon [possibly the Monmouthshire Beacon newspaper] from Did and very nice letter, the news was exceedingly interesting. Speech Day, all the names make me feel old – mere First formers when I left. An hour’s reading now, 2 minutes when at home.

Eighty years ago today Wednesday 25 June 1941

Awoke before 5:30 a.m. and as usual started the day. We did three periods of TEWT on attack before breakfast at 10:30 a.m. Was hungry? No food since tea yesterday. D&M, two CM followed by one ATT (anti-tank training). Had a lecture at 6:30 p.m. by a cadet of [undecipherable word] who had been with the KOLIs [perhaps KOYLI – King’s Own Yorkshire Light Infantry] in France. Started to rain as I left so had to change. D&M should become very interesting.
