Forgot to say ‘rabbits’, but never mind. Roll on 1 October. Up at 5:30 a.m. Drill at 6:15 a.m. was rather a mess. The field was sodden and there was a good deal of change from infantry drill. Had good appetite for breakfast. Then followed lectures: pages and pages of précis, dozens of forms, all confusing. Committed the unpardonable sin of closing my eyes in a lecture, entirely involuntary, this is a soporific climate. Spent the evening at the précis, but they just don’t sink in. Had Munshi from 6 to 7 p.m., Mess 8:00 p.m. and bed 9:45 p.m. Oblivion.
