Eighty years ago today Sunday 24 August 1941

Up at about 8:20 a.m. for breakfast. Went to the service at a nearby Methodist Church. Received telegram from Army HQ, orders cancelled. Proceed to Karkul [a town situated in the Tehsil and District, Abbottabad, at an elevation of 1300 metres, 5 km northeast of the centre of Abbottabad city near the Thandiani Hills. Abbottabad is a District of Khyber-Pakhtunkhwa province of Pakistan] immediately. Couldn’t do anything today, it being Sunday. Went to chapel after tea and had a cup of tea with the Padre. Retired about 11:00 p.m. after having a beer with Boswell.
