Eighty years ago today Sunday 17 August 1941
Awakened in early hours of the morning by revelling and intoxicated officers celebrating their commissions. Got up at 7:00 a.m. and had a nasty affair as my purse had been pinched. I got it back later. Went to service and then wrote home. Spent the rest of the day packing, etc. and left for the train at 7:30 p.m. Travelling is not a pleasant job with two trunks, one case, one kitbag and one valise.
