Eighty years ago today Saturday 16 August1941

Chief event was the farewell lecture by the Commandant; he was quite pleasant, hoped to see us again with heavier metal on our shoulders.* Coy Cdr bid us a few words of farewell. We then signed our Confidential Reports; mine, leadership good, personality good, intelligence average, etc., good at Urdu and boxing. Saw ‘Maryland’ [1940 film starring Walter Brennan, Fay Bainter, Brenda Joyce] in the evening and then spent until 11:15 p.m. packing. What a day.

*Dad ended the war as a major.
