Eighty years ago today Monday 4 August 1941

Rather an easy day, we seem to be marking time. Two Urdu, two D&M and two periods digging trenches. It seems now that the non-drivers will not go to Kabul right away, but will go to a unit to learn to drive. Received a letter from Ruth, couldn’t make out the writing on the envelope. Met a fellow from Accounts 7, Westonbirt, who had been to Llandovery. I did not know him well, but recognized him from rugger team. We had an interesting conversation.
