Eighty years ago today Saturday 14 June 1941
Got up with the unpleasant thought of return. Mucked around all morning, packed, etc. and thanked them [our hosts]. They were very kind and asked us to visit them any time we had leave. They were of the upper class, but not snobbish; very fine people, no one could have given us a better welcome. All the natives and the planters with their wives assembled at the station and gave us a fine cheer and send off. I really felt we had some friends in India.
