Eighty years ago today Thursday 1 May 1941
Spent a period at anti-tank rifle and another at throwing dummy hand grenades. Three periods of FC to complete open air morning. Afternoon lecture by Brigadier on ‘The Present Situation’. Didn’t remember to say ‘rabbits’ [a superstition found in Britain and North America whereby a person says ‘rabbits’ aloud upon waking up on the first day of a month, to ensure good luck for the rest of it], but don’t suppose it will make much difference. Another month under way. I don’t know what I shall do at half-term.
